Made in Spain, Vidorreta is a leading producer of environmentally safe, fashion-forward espadrille sandals, continuing a time-honored tradition that dates to the 14th century. For centuries, the espadrille was known foremost as a peasant's or labourer's shoe, and, because of its comfort and economy, was even worn by soldiers during the Spanish Civil War; in the aftermath, espadrilles were virtually the only affordable shoe for a nation ravaged by war. It wasn't until the 1940s that Hollywood and haute couture discovered the heeled espadrille sandal, and a new footwear mainstay was born.
